All About Me
is my 14th year teaching 1st grade at Hoover. It has been both
rewarding and challenging and is the best job I could ask for. Before
teaching I was a lab technician, ran a day care out of my home, taught
catechism and owned a house cleaning business with my sister-in-law. I
was encouraged to go into teaching by my daughter Meghan's teacher
because I practically lived at her school volunteering. When Meghan was
in 6th grade, I went back to school.
Our whole family!
I received my teaching certificate and Master's Degree from Wayne
State University. I was lucky to complete my student teaching at Adam's
Elementary in Livonia before it closed. I was hired in 2003 by Livonia
Public Schools to teach 1st grade at Hoover Elementary.
I have been married to my husband Dave for 36 years. We have three
children that all graduated from Livonia Franklin High School. My
oldest son, Jake, an engineer, married Shannon in 2011 and had their son,
Carter in 2013 and our 1st granddaughter, Peyton, in 2016. Jeremy, also an engineer, married his high school
sweetheart, Clancy, 5 years ago and had his first son Sawyer in 2013 and his son Sullivan was just born at the end of June. My
daughter, Meghan, graduated from U of M Dearborn with an engineering
degree also and married Drew (an engineer) in August of 2013. Lots of engineers in our
house, considering Mr. Horgan is also an engineer!
The most exciting part of 1st grade is when my students learn to
read! It is amazing to watch them grow and develop self confidence.
Together we will use many tools to help us learn to read, learn many new sight words
that will support your reading and you will have the opportunity to
bring the books you are learning to read home to practice with mom &
I look forward to sharing the exciting journey through first grade with you and your family!
