Getting to Know Ms. Charochak
First Grade Teacher
Hello Hoover Friends,
My name is Lori Charochak and I've been teaching school for 32 years. Five years at a private school in Dearborn Heights and I am now starting my 28th year with The Livonia Public Schools.  I spent 18 years at Taylor Elementary and since then have worked at Hoover. It's been a wonderful experience and I couldn't think of a more rewarding profession.  I love teaching my students to read and write and enjoy seeing their happy smiles each morning.  I am a graduate of The University of Michigan where I hold a BA in Education, a Master's Degree in Elementary Education and have an Early Childhood ZA Endorsement. I have taught second grade, two 1-2 split classes and have had many wonderful years working with first grade students.  I received the Golden Apple Award from the district in 2008 and was also honored to be named Livonia's Elementary Teacher of the Year for the 2008-2009 school year.  I have been blessed to have a job that I love and great colleagues, families and friends to work with.  This summer, I even had the opportunity to do some tutoring which I loved.  It was fun working with students on a 1-1 basis.  It was a very exciting summer.

In my spare time, I love to travel and explore new places with friends and family.  Over the years, I have traveled to  Hawaii, St. Thomas, St. Barts, St. John, St. Martin, Antigua, Tortola, Aruba, Curaco, Bermuda, Barbados, The Bahamas, Punta Cana,Cabo, Grand Cayman, The Riviera Maya, and Cancun, where I climbed to the top of the ancient ruins of Chichen Itza. I have also traveled to many places in the great USA.  In 2009, I was able to tour the White House and the US Capitol building with my mom.  I also went to Mt. Rushmore and The Badlands in South Dakota. They were both fantastic!   One summer, I traveled back to Washington D.C. and saw the new Martin Luther King Memorial and toured The Bureau of Printing and Engraving to see how they make our money. There is always so much to see and I always find things to bring back and share with my students. I also enjoy going to Myrtle Beach and up north to Beaver Island.  In my spare time, I enjoy the movies and taking nice walks for daily exercise.  In High School, I played the clarinet and think I can still play a few notes! Well... maybe!  I attended Grant Elementary, Whitman Junior High School and graduated from Churchill High School.

Once again, I am happy to be working with The Student Leadership Team.  Mrs. Hawker will be joining us and we both will be working with students at the school store The Rocket Pad!   I am also a committee member of Livonia's School District Improvement Team.

My favorite saying, which hangs in house today, was given to me by a former parent.  It reads:
A hundred years from now
it will not matter
what my bank account was,
the sort of house I lived,
or the kind of car I drove-

but the world may be different
because I was important
in the life of a child.
