Principals Message:

I hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing holiday!  It was nice to have the time
off after the holiday to spend time with family.  We enjoyed watching the Michigan
State Spartans play basketball and football.

As we begin 2019 it is a great time to set some age-appropriate goals with
your child.  The goals may focus on your child’s academic, social/emotional
or behavioral needs.   Here are a few ideas:

  • One goal may be to increase the amount of time your child spends reading

independently during the week.  Research shows that readers grow as

readers read.

  • Perhaps the goal for your child may be to concentrate on learning his/her math

fact with greater accuracy and automaticity. Whether the area is addition,

subtraction, and multiplication, the goal is to always work to increase the

number correct in a given amount of time.

  • Another area for goal setting may be behavior.  Has your child been making

some poor choices at recess or in the classroom?  Perhaps if all notes coming

home were positive they could earn a trip for a special treat each week.

Take a look at our Livonia Climate Character Traits for Hoover Rockets- which one
of the areas can your child most use a boost:  BE SAFE, BE RESPECTFUL, BE
RESPONSIBLE, BE KIND, BE MINDFUL, SHOW INTEGRITY, BE
REFLECTIVE, BE CONFIDENT and SHOW EMPATHY.

Warmly,
Julie Linn, Principal

My family and I are looking forward to this Thanksgiving weekend. We are having family over for dinner after going downtown to watch the parade. I remain grateful for this special school community, of which I am privileged to serve as your principal. Our Hoover Rockets are very important to me, and they are cared about a great deal. I hope the coming weeks bring you and your family an opportunity to create memory-making moments and to share happy times together.

50th Celebration

Thank you for attending and volunteering at our 50th Celebration. It was an amazing evening. We had over 500 guests attend. I am still looking through all the pictures on the thumb drive from the photo booth and trying to recognize all those smiles in disguise. We were thrilled to see Mr. Otto, Hoover’s first principal. Mayor Kirksey enjoyed his birthday present and special cupcake. The Stevenson ensemble musicians played for two hours. It was a magical evening down memory lane. Hoover has been and will continue to be a magical school environment that is joyful and engaging for all students, staff and family.

Take care,

Julie Linn

I would like to again remind our community that our Hoover Helping Hearts Fund is available to any family in our school community. Many folks have encountered job loss, wage decreases, increased financial stress and more. For some, it has been minor—others a more pressing burden. So that we may in some small way support our families, the Hoover staff created a Helping Hearts Fund approximately 7 years ago. This fund is intended to be used privately and with extreme confidentiality to help families who need a hand. It may be clothing or food needs, a new pair of glasses for your child, help at the holidays, etc... The holidays are especially a difficult time during financial stressplease know we are more than happy to help. There are two people who may be contacted are either me (Mrs.Linn) or Mrs. Bice, our EST provider. We do not share with the staff or anyone in our community, information regarding the recipients of our Helping Hearts Fund. Please let me know if we can help you and your family in any way. My e-mail is jlinn2@livoniapublicschools.org and Mrs. Bice’s e-mail is jbice2@livoniapublicschools.org . As I often tell our boys and girls, “At Hoover Elementary we care about one another” - we truly mean that.

Mission Behavior Focus for December

BE KIND - Next month, we will be focusing on acts of kindness. Students could share pencils, provide care when friends are injured, walk peers to the office, open milk containers for younger students or help classmates zip coats.

Music Concert

First and Second grade students will have their holiday concert on December 10, 2014. First graders will perform at 5:30 p.m. and second graders will perform at 7:15 p.m. A note will come home with those students with more details. We are looking forward to kicking off the holiday season with our Hoover Rockets.
