I have been working in the Livonia Public Schools for 15 years.  It may surprise you to learn that I began my teaching career at Hoover Elementary as a 1st grade teacher in 2003, where I had the wonderful opportunity to work on a team with both Mrs. Horgan and Mrs. Eckerle. Other colleagues from that year that are still here at Hoover include:  Ms. Moritz, Mrs. Christensen, Mrs. Cannell & Mrs. Cowher.  So, in a sense, I feel that I've returned home! :)  Since 2003, I have also taught 1st grade at Cleveland as well as 3rd grade at Cass before earning my master's degree in Library and Information Science from Wayne State University and transitioning into the school library.  Prior to coming to Hoover, I was a part-time library media specialist for 3 years at Cleveland Elementary.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our sons, Jackson (10) and Owen (8), reading (of course!), gardening, playing with our 2 cats,  and being outdoors. This past summer, we spent time enjoying the outdoors in some of the national parks!  We visited Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes, Mammoth Cave, and Great Smoky Mountains National Parks.  We also spent a lot of time swimming and gardening.
I'm very excited for another wonderful school year at Hoover!  This year our school theme is Come Grow With Us.  As part of the Eco-Action team at Hoover, I'm looking forward to continuing our work to pursue a green flag eco-schools award through the National Wildlife Federation.  We will be the first school in Michigan to achieve this high level of certification.  This past year we've made much progress towards this goal, including the installations of both the Outdoor Classroom and the new walking trail through the woods.  We are also working hard on continuing our recycling and healthy living pathways.  It is a very rewarding process and I look forward to using the Outdoor Classroom with students.

I encourage all Hoover families to spend at least 20 minutes each day reading. Reading aloud with your child does not have to stop once they begin reading on their own - take some time to share the magic of a wonderful book together no matter the age of your child.
