All About Me
Sol Duc Falls, Olympic National Park
I have been working in the Livonia Public Schools for 13 years. It may surprise you to learn that I began my teaching career at Hoover Elementary as a 1st grade teacherin 2003, where I had the wonderful opportunity to work on a team with both Mrs. Horgan and Mrs. Eckerle. Other colleagues from that year that are still here at Hoover include: Ms. Moritz, Mrs. Christensen, Mrs. Cannell & Mrs. Cowher. So, in a sense, I feel that I've returned home! :) Since 2003, I have also taught 1st grade at Cleveland as well as 3rd grade at Cass before earning my master's degree in Library and Information Science from Wayne State University and transitioning into the school library. Prior to coming to Hoover, I was a part-time library media specialist for 3 years at Cleveland Elementary.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our sons, Jackson (8) and Owen (6), reading (of course!), gardening, playing with our 2 cats, and being outdoors. This past summer, we spent time enjoying our beautiful state with trips to Mackinac Island, Roscommon, and Port Sanilac. We also rode our bikes a lot, went canoeing, and even tried stand-up paddle boarding!
I'm very excited for another wonderful school year at Hoover! This year our school theme is Wild About Hoover. As part of the Eco-Action team at Hoover, I'm looking forward to continuing our work to pursue an eco-schools award through the National Wildlife Federation. Mrs. Skibinski and I will be partnering with a sister school in Taiwan to share our work on the biodiversity pathway. At Hoover, our project entails creating areas that will attract more wildlife by adding native plants to a garden area in front of the library windows and Mrs. Skibinski's windows.
I encourage all Hoover families to spend at least 20 minutes each day reading. Reading aloud with your child does not have to stop once they begin reading on their own - take some time to share the magic of a wonderful book together no matter the age of your child.
